When it comes to versatile evergreens you really can’t go wrong with Oriental Spruce. The lower branches hold to the ground forming an elegant skirt which makes it a great choice as a stand alone conifer. Planted in groups, if not sited too closely, work great as an accent, and staggered along an open property line offer a beautiful screen. In comparison to other screening evergreens it’s a smaller, slower grower reaching about 50-60′ high with a pyramidal habit.

Oriental Spruce is not prickly like other spruces, it’s a touchable – the dark green needles are very short and spaced closely together on the branch.

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil or partial shade as long as it gets about 4-6 hours of sun. It’s tolerant of both acidic and alkaline soils, but does not tolerate salt spray, soil salts or wet feet. Hardy in zones 4-7.
