Dan, our perennial propagator, is very excited about the growing selection of native woodland plants including the Spring Ephemerals like the Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucularia) seen here. These perennials take advantage of warming spring soil temperatures and the abundant sunlight available before the tree canopies leaf out. Once they are done flowering, most will slowly die back to the ground once they’ve gathered enough energy for next year. They all have interesting flowers and foliage but vary in their bloom length, above ground presence, soil requirements and maintenance – all of which are important to know before planting. Right now is a great time to get them in the ground so you and your customers can enjoy their full spring show.
