Need a focal point specimen with year round interest? Check out the Red Dragon Contorted Filbert (Corylus avellana). This interesting contorted shrub is very hardy and best grown in full sun. Their leaves hold a burgundy-red color well into the season which then fades to yellow-gold into the fall before they drop. Winter brings out the burgundy catkins onto the curly branches making it the center of attention for your entry way garden or patio. A slow grower reaching 6-8’ with a spread of 3-5’ makes this a great foundation plant or accent along a walk way where you can appreciate the curly branching. Once established, requires little to no maintenance and is deer resistant.
